Michelle Andrews writes the weekly “Insuring Your Health” column for the Washington Post and Kaiser Health News, and is former senior writer at U.S. News & World Report and SmartMoney magazines.
Andrews has been writing about health care and health policy for more than a decade. Her work has appeared frequently in the New York Times, where she wrote the “Money and Medicine” column, as well as in Money, National Geographic, Travel & Leisure, Fortune Small Business, Women’s Health, Glamour, Self, Prevention and Reader’s Digest magazines, among others.
She is a former National Magazine Awards finalist, Andrews received the 2010 award for explanatory journalism from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for a Money magazine cover story on health reform, which she co-authored.
The award is named for Dr. Foley in recognition of her contributions to furthering professional and public understanding about the need for effective cancer and end-of-life pain management. She is an attending neurologist for the Pain and Palliative Care Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and director of the Project on Death in America sponsored by the Open Society Institute.
