2018 Omnibus Spending Bill
APS commends Congress for bipartisan passage of the 2018 Omnibus Spending Bill, which gives the National Institutes of Health an 8.8% budget increase, its largest in 15 years. The bill authorizes $500 million for research on opioid addiction, new alternative pain treatments, and pain management.
APS is hopeful the NIH budget increase will be applied to fund more pain research grants for basic science, translational, and clinical studies. Increased public and private financial support for pain research offers the most promising solution to find new treatments to lessen use of opioids or someday eliminate them in clinical practice.
