Fundamentals of Pain Management: An Interdisciplinary Primer
APS offers popular Fundamentals of Pain Management: An Interdisciplinary Primer course to wider audience in 2016

This 1 ½ day course will take place on Tuesday, May 10 and Wednesday, May 11 as a preconference event prior to the APS 35th Annual Scientific Meeting in Austin, Texas. The course is designed to provide each participant with a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary learning, a mentored first exposure to the annual scientific meeting, and a foundation for lifelong learning focused on pain management. Past course agendas have included topics such as:
- Communication: Patient-Centered Interactions
- Are Opioid Analgesics Ever Appropriate for the Treatment of Chronic Pain?
- Pain Assessment: Key Mechanisms of Nociception, Pain, Pain States, History, the Use of Screening and Diagnostic Tools
- Examining the Person in Pain: Spine and Neurologic Assessment
- Neuropathic Pain
- Headache
- Acute Pain Management
- Interventional Pain Management
The Fundamentals course is open to early career professionals who are interested in pursuing a career in pain management. Participants also have the opportunity to attend the Early Career Forum, which will take place from 1-4:15 pm on Wednesday immediately following the close of Fundamentals. Please be sure to register for Fundamentals and also select the Early Career Forum from the list of annual meeting opportunities on Wednesday, 5/11. Fundamentals attendees are also invited to attend the Early Career Breakfast on Saturday, May 14 from 8-9 am; make this selection when completing your registration form.
The 2016 course is open to the first 100 early career professionals to register – registration will open on the APS web site on February 15th . The course fee is $225 which includes both the Fundamentals course and the student registration rate for the Annual Scientific Meeting! APS is not requesting applications to attend the Fundamentals course this year, and there are no scholarship funds available to assist participants with travel expenses. Registration is open to all early career professionals until capacity is reached for the course.
Onsite registration will not be available. Please register prior to May 6th to have access to this event.
The Fundamentals course is not being offered for continuing education credit.
