Proposed Changes to the
Bylaws of the American Pain Society 2016
The Board of Directors, in consideration of the need for continuity and a recognition of the special skills required in the office of the Treasurer of the Society, proposes that their term of office be modified. In order to maintain the rotation of members of the Executive Committee, it is further proposed that the term of the Secretary be modified as well.
Current: Both the Secretary and the Treasurer serve for a two-year term and are eligible to stand for re-election for a maximum of three two-year terms.
Proposed: The Secretary shall be elected from the Voting Members and shall not serve in that capacity for more than two (2) three-year consecutive terms.
The Treasurer shall be elected from the voting members of the Society. The Treasurer shall not serve in that capacity for more than two (2) three-year consecutive terms.
Impact: The current Secretary's term (2016-2018) would be extended by one year to
end with the 2019 annual scientific meeting. The current Treasurer's term (2015-2017) would be extended one additional year and end with the 2018 annual scientific meeting.
Other minor changes to the bylaws are administrative or grammatical.
